Indian Actors Mithun Chakraborty and Vidya Balan to Star in Rajinikanth's Action Comedy 'Jailer 2'

The involvement of Indian actors Mithun Chakraborty and Vidya Balan in superstar Rajinikanth's upcoming action comedy Jailer 2 was widely known but received official confirmation from Bollywood actor Jatin Sarna.

In an Instagram post, Sarna, known for his roles in the web series Sacred Games and the sports drama 83, shared about meeting Rajinikanth. Sarna, who had a minor role in Rajinikanth's Darbar (2020), will also be part of Jailer 2. The post included photos of him with Balan, Chakraborty, and director Nelson Dilipkumar, putting an end to speculations.

"And it’s a Wrap on #jailer2 When you ask for a challenge and it comes like this thanks to the entire team of jailer2 and special thanks to @nelsondilipkumar for this opportunity and Superstar @rajinikanth sir for whom I did this film alongside @mithunchakrabortyofficial dada we all love you @balanvidya aka the mischievous @iam__sjsuryah & @hakim_shajahan macha," Sarna captioned his post.

However, Sun Pictures, owned by media baron Kalanithi Maran, which is financing the movie, is yet to make an official statement.

In September last year, Khaleej Times reported that Balan and Chakraborty were offered pivotal roles in the movie, with Chakraborty portraying the antagonist.

Chakraborty and Rajinikanth have previously collaborated, with Rajinikanth appearing in two of Chakraborty's films—Hindi movie Bhrastachar (1989) and Bengali film Bhagya Debata (1997).

Jailer 2 will be Balan's second venture in Tamil cinema after the 2019 legal drama Nerkonda Paarvai, a remake of the Bollywood hit Pink.

An Ensemble Cast

The 'universe' of Jailer 2 has expanded with cameos from Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar, as seen in the first film. It will also include cast members from the original, such as Ramya Krishnan, Mirnaa Menon, and Yogi Babu. Vijay Sethupathi, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, mentioned his willingness to take on negative roles and confirmed a cameo in Jailer 2.

Additionally, Chakraborty hinted at a possible guest appearance by Shah Rukh Khan. Actor-director SJ Suryah and Vinayakan will complete the cast for the sequel.

Last January, Sun Pictures released a humorous teaser hinting at the sequel continuing the action-packed theme of guns, fights, and a tribute to Rajinikanth's iconic persona.

Jailer follows the journey of Muthuvel Pandian (Rajinikanth), a retired police officer searching for his missing son, also a righteous cop, which received critical acclaim. The film earned nearly Rs 6.5 billion (Dh 250 million approximately) worldwide and was among the top-grossing Indian movies of 2023.

Jailer 2 is set to premiere globally on June 12, 2026.

Travis Kelce has grown up, says Jason Kelce
Travis Kelce is "changing" because of new people in his life. The 35-sports star has been dating singer Taylor Swift since 2023, and Jason Kelce, Travis' older brother, has been staggered by his sibling's personal evolution. Speaking about his brother's growth, Jason said on the 'Fitz and Whit' podcast: "It’s been staggering, honestly." The 37-year-old star recalled Travis having a Peter Pan-like quality during his younger years. Jason said: "One of the things I love so much about Travis is that he never grew up. He was like Peter Pan, the lost boys." Jason acknowledged that the new people in Travis' life have had a healthy influence on him in recent times. The former NFL star said: "I think that sometimes you get people in your life that maybe get that out of you. That’s a good thing." Despite this, Travis has retained a playful side to his personality. Jason explained: "Trav, he is growing up. He’s still got that youthful enthusiasm. I think he’ll kind of always have that. It’s just part of his personality." Meanwhile, Travis recently admitted to feeling inspired by Taylor during her Eras Tour. The Kansas City Chiefs star admitted to taking inspiration from Taylor, 35, and her record-breaking tour. Speaking ahead of the Super Bowl, Travis explained: "What I saw on that tour last year was pretty remarkable. "To see the week-in, week-out travelling from one country to the next and how excruciating it is on her body and on her mind - and it’s not just her. It was her entire tour. It was an absolute machine and it was something I could admire watching." Travis also revealed that he was focusing on his diet ahead of the Super Bowl. He said: "I’ve been eating clean. I haven’t been drinking as much, a little lower on the pounds this week."
